This is what I hope will be the start of an important conversation about brotherhood/sisterhood and the eradication of hazing.

Definition obtained through Google:

I have never been hazed. As a journalist and author, I have read about, and heard many stories about the subject. My assessment is that it is an evil practice that must finally come to an end.

In my book, “Sidetracked: He Used To Love Me” , the lead character, Sabrina Kendricks is a legacy. She survives “Hell Week” and then some!

Buzz, I’ve been a busy bee!

It has been a long time, friends. I know; but, I have been so busy doing really important stuff.

Here are a few updates:

No more Blogtalk Radio Show, I don’t have enough time in the day! All the gurus say, “FOCUS”. So, focus I must.

Sidetracked: He Used To Love Me is currently available at Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com. I have given away over 200 copies, so far, which has been GREAT promotion. After all, I want people to read the book. I’m so excited to share the story. Plus, I’ve gotten some incredible feedback. Several readers said they could not put the book down. They read it cover to cover. I love that!

Here’s a quick summary…

I have been making some appearances. I had an amazing book launch, I’ve been doing some radio interviews and working social media to promote the book. It has been so much fun! I’m looking forward to doing more promotion very soon.

Thanks for supporting Cellibration Publishing. There is so much more to come!

It’s Over…Again

Today was the last day of school. I had the talk with my kids about how great I felt they are, how much I believe in them, about how much they have learned and grown, and how I wished them all the best for next school year. I encouraged them to take their class folders home and to share their work with their parents. I packed up all my stuff, loaded it in to the car, and left the building! School’s out for summer!

This time I may be gone for good. Broward County Public Schools is embroiled in upheaval. People don’t know what is going to happen. I’ve been surplussed. Who knows where I will be next year? I’m confident though. This is a time for great change to occur in my life. I’m cool with it. I have become very good at dealing with change. I know I will land on my feet, I always do.

Today my “friend” was quite unfriendly. He basically confirmed what my intuition was saying for months. That’s fine too. I forgive. I forget. I press on. I also leave with parting words that will never be forgotten. I am sweet as they come, until I’m crossed or my intelligence, honor, loyalty, or virtue is questioned…compromised. All I have in this world is my word and my spirit and I won’t let anyone get away with disrespecting it or trying to break it (or me).

For the collective, I offer this:

Do More…

Do more than exist, live.
Do more than hear, listen.
Do more than agree, cooperate.
Do more than talk, communicate.
Do more than grow, bloom.
Do more than spend, invest.
Do more than think, create.
Do more than work, excel.
Do more than share, give.
Do more than decide, discern.
Do more than consider, commit.
Do more than forgive, forget.
Do more than help, serve.
Do more than coexist, reconcile.
Do more than sing, worship.
Do more than think, plan.
Do more than dream, do.
Do more than see, perceive.
Do more than read, apply.
Do more than receive, reciprocate.
Do more than choose, focus.
Do more than wish, believe.
Do more than advise, help.
Do more than speak, impart.
Do more than encourage, inspire.
Do more than add, multiply.
Do more than change, improve.
Do more than reach, stretch.
Do more than ponder, pray.
Do more than just live, live for Jesus.

– John Mason, from the book
An Enemy Called Average

Say your prayers, kids

“B-True Organics, A Family Affair”

“B-True Organics, A Family Affair”
By, Ascellia Arenas

Nestled in the trendy, newly renovated downtown shops of Hollywood, FL, is a family owned and operated natural beauty care supply store that has a lot of heart. B- True Organics Skin and Hair Care store owner, Carleen Primus, believes that good skin and hair care starts with what you put on the inside of your body. Carleen believes, “the source of all good things begins within ourselves.”

Carleen, proprietor and esthetician, is a proponent of maintaining good health, which will naturally bring about great skin, hair, and nails. Carleen says, “B-True Organics was developed to aid customers in finding healthy skin and hair care products that are vitally beneficial to the skin and hair.” Carleen, who was born and raised in the Virgin Islands, researches organic products that are formulated with naturally effective ingredients without harsh chemicals. As she lovingly provided her husband Ben with a facial demonstration during the interview, she explained that, “products that are PH balanced, sodium lauryl/laureth free, paraben free, and not tested on animals should be what you put on and in your body. All products that you use should promote wellness: internally and externally.”

Carleen does more than sell organic products to consumers; she uses them herself and promotes their use amongst her family and friends. Her husband, Ben Primus, boasts proudly of her skills. She explained to me how much his skin has improved since using the products on him while providing him with weekly facials. When asked if he felt funny receiving services he exclaimed, “No! I love it, she is excellent at what she does. I recommend that all men take care of themselves this way.” The family owned store also serves as an investment for her family’s future. She says, “the children are learning about running a business, and they are very much involved.”

Last, Carleen adds, “We believe in educating our consumers about these products to assist them with healthy choices when purchasing personal care products.” Overall health, eating clean food, drinking lots of water, and getting plenty of rest helps her consumers live up to the company motto, “B-true to your skin, B-true to your hair. B-True to yourself.

Carleen adds, “Our Company’s mission is to fulfill our customers needs by providing the very best in customer service, product information and high quality products.” Please visit the store, which is located at 2035 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, FL 33020. Call to schedule skin care services, 954-925-2780, or visit them on the web at www. btrueorganics.com. Carleen and family say, “We want our customers to experience the best that nature has to offer.”

The Art of Sexy: Polestars

The Art of Sexy: Polestars
By, Ascellia Arenas

After years of formal dance training Susana Morales began her teaching career, as a dance instructor, at the age of 15. The young entrepreneur opened her first dance studio in downtown Hollywood, The SLC Dance Factory, when she was only 21 years old. SLC was a small studio; however, through her drive and determination she was able to increase her clientele by offering fantastic service and instruction. As a young dancer, Susana knew what her calling was; she wanted to dance, dance, dance. This “Cubanita” impresario had the support of her family in her dancing endeavors. The Morales family permitted her to pursue dance under the watchful eyes of her chaperone. They allowed her to go on tour with local radio station, Power 96, as a dancer/choreographer. Susana got great exposure on the road touring with Power 96. During this tour, Susana was named “Susana La Cubana” by popular DJ Laz ( Lazaro Mendez). The tour enlightened her about the challenges of a being a traveling performer. She was not interested in “going down the wrong path.” Susana La Cubana wanted to make a name for herself in a positive way.
While watching an episode of the Oprah Winfrey show, Susana saw another female entrepreneur introduce the concept of using a “stripper pole” to increase physical fitness in a fun and interesting way. She says, “When I saw her use the portable pole I fell in love. I called for the mail order pole, in pink, my favorite color!” She became very excited about the possibilities of using this tool to enhance her ability to develop fresh choreography. She taught herself how to incorporate the techniques she learned throughout her entire life as a dancer and created a program that not only is engaging and fun but physically demanding and technically driven. Susana says, “This is not your typical pole fitness class.” She incorporates Latin moves, electrifying tricks, mixed with popular music from South Florida in a way that teaches students to dance and flow. Susana says, “It is my goal as a teacher to give the student what [they] need.” Susana developed several routines that help all types of women from those wanting to be sexy and for those seeking serious training in dance technique. Susana offers, “I wanted to be able to provide another type of dance to the art form”. She does not want to diminish the sex appeal of the genre, she does want for patrons to realize that being a “polestar” does not happen in just one class.
As she emphasizes the technique of the dance; she begins training students in their bare feet. Over time students will evolve, with proper training into skilled performers capable of flowing through elegant transitions from the floor-work to the pole in platforms or stilettos. With instruction, a fledgling dancer can develop professional moves like locks, aerials, and the ultimate “trick”, the death drop! Susana is doing great things in her new state of-the art studio that rivals any night club or gym. The eco-friendly, 2,400 square foot studio features 11 mounted poles and foam mats. Visit Polestars for schedules, fees, and details!

Hmmmm, where have I been? Well, since returning from NY, my sister has been in the hospital, twice! I’ve been working on a new project and finishing the old one. I’m in the gym everyday like I work there and time has been running away so fast, I can’t seem to catch it.

My oldest went to his big 8th grade dance, had his last middle school concert, and is going on his 2nd-8th grade trip early in the morning. My youngest has decided to eat his weight in chicken nuggets. The child has not met a chicken nugget he doesn’t like. It has been nonstop go, go, go!

What I can offer is this. Trust that you are doing your best, feel that your best is good enough, and believe that your best can get even better!
